Medical assistant programs come in many forms, some lasting as short as six months while others go for two years. When considering a program, besides the obvious cost concerns, it is important to check on a few other issues as well. Ask if the medical assistant program is accredited, and by whom. Two year programs may well lead to an associate degree which will no doubt put you at the top of the hiring heap, at least among those without experience. If you have already served as a medical assistant and can bring in top flight recommendations, then perhaps you will need less in the way of documentation for your education.
